Parental Involvement Policy

Policy Statement

We believe that children benefit most from early education and care when parents and settings work together in partnerships. 

Our aim is to support parents as their first and most important educators by involving them in their child's education.

When we refer to "parents" we mean the person with "Parental Responsibility" ( Parental Responsibility is all the rights, duties, powers and responsibilities and authority which by law a parent of a child has in relation to the child and his property). 

Procedure

• We consult with all parents to find out what works best for them.
• We make all new parents aware of the Pre-Schools systems and policies.
• We encourage parents on an individual basis, to play an active part in the management of the group by being part of the committee.
• We ensure that parents are informed on a regular basis about their own child's progress.
• We ensure that all parents have opportunities to contribute from their own skills, knowledge and interests to the activities of the group.
• We involve parents in shared record keeping of their own child, and encourage parents to contribute to their child's learning journeys.
• We ensure that parents are informed about meetings, conferences, workshops and training and consult with families about the times of meetings, to avoid excluding anyone. 
• We hold meetings in venues which are accessible and appropriate. 
• We welcome the contribution of parents, whatever form these will take. 
• We make known to parents the procedures for registering queries, complaints or suggestions. 
• We provide opportunities for parents to learn about the Pre-School curriculum and about young children's learning, in Pre-School and at home. 
• We have a Facebook page for existing parents only, where we share as much information as possible about their child's play, upcoming events and other relevant information. Parent's permission is obtained prior to their child starting at Carmel Caterpillars Pre-School for permission for their child to be shown on our Facebook/website.
